Cinematic Title VFX
1. What were you asked to make
We were told to recreate a title sequence using an online tutorial found on YouTube.
2. How might this be useful to making your own title sequence
It shows us what effort goes into making only 6 seconds of footage. It also helps with our organisation, as with me I did not know how useful pre-comps were in After Effects.
3. Which font did you use, why
I used the font that was shown in the YouTube video as I did not have enough time to find another font I liked or went well with the feel of the sequence.
4. How might a different font/look suit a different audience/film genre
Fonts really help set a genre / mood of the show as if you have very futuristic fonts for a documentary on Vikings it would not fit well at all, the same vice versa.
5. Did you need any help? If so, who did you turn to - peer/teacher/google etc? Or did you solve it yourself with some playing around?
I did need help as when I added the "Blobbylize" effect, it made it almost invisible. So I tried fixing it myself by checking the tutorial and removing and adding the effect back on again, which did not work. I asked a teacher and they told me that I had accidently made a completely separate composition so the Blobbylize effect was going off of the wrong materials.
6. What did you learn
As I stated before, I learnt the importance of pre-comps and how good they are for organisation.
7. Detail 2-3 AE skills that you learned and how-tos that are transferrable to other projects. eg how to pre-compose and why this might be useful
Once again, I could use the idea of pre-comps in other projects; Premiere Pro's nest feature and Photoshops group feature. Another skill that could be used in other projects is the parent feature / link feature as this is used to link multiple assets to effects.
8. Watch some varied title sequences and choose three to map out on Illustrator or Photoshop, on a timeline (I will explain this one!)
